Abstract

The Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game belongs to the prolific Wizards of the Coast company, which owns brands like Magic: The Gathering, among others. He finds himself facing the biggest schism he has ever experienced with his community. This in the face of the threatening update of its Open Gaming License (OGL 1.2) and the extreme measures it took. The community did not take long to make itself heard, and at the same time, small, medium and large creators of content related to the Hobby raised their voices. Could an international multicorporate monetize a product that draws on culture, from oral tradition to the present? Dungeons & Dragons started out as a fantasy game for a few in the basement of his creator, with paper, pencil, a few dice, and figures. It is now a giant in the entertainment industry and while anyone can produce and sell content using their Open Game License, this may change.
