Abstract

This research analyzed the determinants that cause entrepreneurs to decide whether or not to invest in the adoption of technology and innovations. The research was applied with a qualitative and descriptive approach, with the purpose of answering the hypothesis stated in this research. The research findings were obtained through the collection of information and data analysis. Likewise, the study variables were innovation and technology in the business sector (SMEs) in times of crisis, such as the one caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the hypothesis "the lack of technological knowledge and a traditional business culture are factors that cause that the business owners of SMEs do not innovate, or only invest in the necessary technology, so that the pandemic gave a twist to this situation causing that they were forced to adapt to new technological changes to survive in the business market", it is accepted given the literature review presented, however, it is suggested to inquire about the subject to deepen the analysis. In addition, it is specified that according to goal 9 of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations Organization that refers to innovation, SMEs should have more access to technology, information systems and accelerate the increase of digital technologies.
