AbstractThe caregiver of a person with a dependent disability is submitted to stress, overload, symptoms of anxiety (SA) and depression (SD), such factors can affect his/her quality of life (QOL). The objective of this study was to describe the relationship between overload, SA and SD with the QOL of caregivers of children with a dependent disability, through a descriptive study applied to 31 caregivers that resulted with a low quality of life on a previous research called "Quality of life of primary caregivers of patients with a dependent disability of CRIT Chihuahua, Mexico". A socio-demographic questionnaire was applied as well as Beck's inventories of anxiety and depression and Zarit's overload scale. The results show a moderate overload (31.9%), moderate SA (21.3%) and slight of SD (13.4%). Inverse relationships between the QOL and the SA (r = -.174; pv = 0.664) were found, inverse relationships between QOL and SD (r = -.20; pv = 0.311) and a minimum relationship between overload and QOL (r = -.030; pv = 0.923), p value indicates the absence of association between variables. It was revealed that four caregivers have suicidal thoughts manifesting SA and severe overload. The caregivers who are more exposed to suffer some derangement thanks to the severe level in their SA and SD are part-time employees, as well as the ones who have a technical career education and the ones who live in free union. It can be concluded that the relationship between the variables of the study with QOL was not significant, but the results exhibit relevant information to research aimed to know more about QOL of caregivers of children with disabilities. Keywords: health, mental health, overload, symptoms of anxiety and symptoms of depression, quality of life.
